It is all in the motives. If I am tithing it is because I love God, not because I want to get it back ten-fold. Then my motives are wrong. There is a song that has a line in it "seeking His face, and not only his hand". I heard the song many times and did not understand this line. My husband told me that he thought it meant that you seek the presence of the Lord for who He is, not what He can do for you. This should be our sole motivation in serving the Lord, no matter the area. If it is giving of our time, money, or talent, it should be done for the Lord and His glory. We should not do it to get anything back, be it fame, recognition, or money/possessions.
